Our food philosophy is all about allowing you to invent interesting matches with the excellent craft beer we pour. You can expect lots of dishes, some small and some classic portions and surprises - lots of rich pickled and fermented flavours, excellent charcuterie, our very own hand made breads and coffee alongside many other local seasonal delicacies.
Award-winning chef, John will be heading up the Fermentery's busy kitchen creating our unique and unexpected food pairings - think of him as part chef, part semi-mad scientist. Most recently John was the owner, managing director and executive chef of pan-Mediterranean restaurant Osteria del Toro for nine years. He was awarded New Zealand Chef of the Year in 2001/02 and 2002/03 while working as group executive chef at Boulcott Street Bistro, in recognition of his hard work, talent and drive. He's also honed his skills as head chef of Taupo luxury resort Huka Lodge.
Lily has hospitality in her blood: as a child she helped out in her Vietnamese Grandfather's restaurant. Lily came to New Zealand from France in 2010 and joined the Scott clan, working as Assistant Manager at Leuven before taking up the challenge of the Scott's then-new venture Ombra, a Venetian Bacaro on Cuba Street in 2013. For five years Lily was the familiar face that greeted customers with her French flair and vast knowledge and love of great food and wine. Now she's bringing her wealth of knowledge and experience to the Fermentery.
Experience our brewery up close and personal with a guided tour! Every Saturday at 4pm we offer a tour of our brewery, a few nibbles and of course a sample of our beers. It takes 1 hour from start to finish and costs just $39 per person. Maximum 12 people so get in quick!!

Our music will be pretty special too. For the first time in Wellington we'll bring you a unique reel to reel music system devised by Chicago based audio duo, Uncanned. This gives us a truly distinctive Whistling Sisters sound that makes every night a good time at the Fermentery. Our music, curated in Chicago by Scotty, will bring a beautiful blend of old and new, mellow and upbeat, retro funk combined with the odd bit of yodeling or a local new tune.
